This blog is the first step of a brand new journey for me. Well, that’s not entirely true, if I’m being honest. I’ve been on this journey for as long as I can remember, going all the way back to some of my earliest memories. But it’s always seemed more like something of a tantalizing dream than an actual life-long profession. That’s no longer the case. And I will no longer allow it to even be a notion in my mind.
I have always been a creative person and I’ve long since dreamed of being one of the greatest storytellers the world has ever known. I’ve wanted my name to be celebrated along the likes of Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, H.P. Lovecraft, Alexandre Dumas, and many others. To be spoken of with awe present in the voices of my millions of adoring fans. I mean, who hasn’t wanted to be famous, right?
But a lot of things have happened in my life that have stalled these dreams. Things that have caused me to push my dreams down to place them on the proverbial back-burner. Many of the things I have experienced made me question the legitimacy of my right to seek a seat among these great authors as a peer. What could I possibly have to offer the world that makes me worthy?
However, these questions don’t plague me anymore. The sense of “imposter syndrome” has long melted away. I have plenty to offer the world. It’s the very experiences that caused me to question myself and my abilities, to doubt my artistic gifts, that I can offer. My life has had many valleys and peaks. As paradoxical as it sounds, it seems there have been more valleys than peaks. Maybe the valleys have just seemed to always be deeper than my peaks have ever been high. But each of these experiences has made me who I am today. It’s a cliche, I know. But it’s the truth. They have shaped my personality and perspectives, my very world views. And there are stories in them. So very many stories. Some of them are completely true, some are allegorical but they are there, and they are legion. And I intend to tell as many of them as I can with the time I have left in this world. And I’m bringing along with me on this expedition everyone who chooses to follow and see how it all unfolds.
This blog will be my attempt to chronicle my experiences as I try to build myself a home somewhere out into the wide open world of authorship. I will also be sharing bits about my personal life outside of my stories. Maybe my own experiences will resonate with others and help someone who has been struggling like I have, or in their own unique ways, to express themselves and claim their seat at the table of artists. We’re all welcome here.
I wish you all luck on your own journeys.
