Clear professional writing begins with understanding what the reader needs from the document. Its structure, level of detail, and language follow from that purpose.

My interests in professional and informational writing include explaining complex material, organizing research, and developing documents that help people understand a subject or decide what to do next.

Research has shaped much of the way I approach writing. My academic work draws on history, culture, religion, and the humanities, with particular attention to how ideas and institutions develop in relation to their circumstances.

That work involves evaluating sources, comparing interpretations, identifying patterns, and building arguments from evidence. I am interested in what those relationships help us understand, as well as the questions the available evidence leaves open.

Some subjects need room to wander a little. My articles and essays range across cultural and historical commentary, film, fiction, mythology, media, and subjects that give me a reason to keep thinking.

These pieces bring research and analysis into a more conversational form. I try to give readers enough context to follow the argument while leaving room for curiosity, interpretation, and the connections that make a subject worth exploring.

Fiction is where many of my other interests meet. History, mythology, religion, folklore, psychology, horror, and speculative fiction all find their way into the stories I write.

My creative work gives me space to explore those interests through characters, settings, and the consequences of their choices. Poetry offers another form for working with voice, imagery, rhythm, and the associations language can carry.
